Serravalle Pistoiese

The town of Serravalle Pistoiese is a border between the area of Florence, Prato, Pistoia, and that of Montecatini and Monsummano. Of importance, the medieval castle of Serravalle which assumed considerable importance during the twelfth century, when the Municipality of Pistoia fortificò the castle with towers and walls. It was a period in which, the castle experienced a great development, thanks to its own position. During the early 1300 the village was conquered by the troops lucchesi by the famous leader Castruccio Castracani. In 1351 the castle was dominated by the power Florentine, experiencing a period of tranquillity. It became podestà, under the command of Cosimo I de 'Medici while from 1866 was part of the Kingdom of Italy.
