The ancient fortress of Marliana, was destroyed in the second half of the twelfth century, in clashes with nearby Montecatini, was rebuilt after the defeat suffered in 1177. Currently there were only a few traces of the wall placed around the town, while the town plan with its steep streets internal converge towards the upper part of the country, still repeats the old fort.
